Violet Evergarden is a character from an animated series I emjoyed.

The shortened version of her traumatic story is that she finds work at a postal service becoming a writer, or 'auto memories doll'.

She writes letters for people who cant write or who need help expressing themselves.

Over lockdown I had a romantic notion that I could write letters for people. Great romantic tomes. Turns out romance is less popular than I'd hope but love between female friends and daughter parent connections is very much alive.

I wrote so many letters, poems, and favourite songs in my curled script using natural oak ink, brewed by an alchemist friend.

Decorated with pressed flowers collected throughout the year from the vergesides I was parked on and folded into a brown envelope sealed with wax.

My favourite letters to write are the Father Christmas letters.
Letters filled with pride and encouragement. Words to confirm that their achievements have been noticed.
I dont think a winter goes by where I don't bawl over my pen at these letters.
